Text Box: Hello there! Week of February 7, 2012

     Six weeks ago, I realized I was SO done with crowded cabinets and freezers and shopping in general.  The holidays are wonderful, but the excess makes me crazy!  I stocked fresh produce and milk, then stopped shopping for as long as possible!

     My family was OK with the plan until things started running out.  But now the cabinets and freezer are less cluttered, and we spent little in January on groceries.  This week's blog, "Less Truly is More:  Pantry Shopping" will walk you through the process in your own kitchen.

     I worked with a client on her pantry and menu planning in January, and her recent comment was "By the way, the cashier at Dominicks said she hadn't seen for awhile, so I take that as a good sign that I'm not making as many trips to the store"!   Another client mentioned that after she cleaned out her pantry and tried menu planning, "it is easier to find things and now I am mindful of what I am eating."

     My NAPO list serve offered some great resources for cutting down on your incoming mail:
Contact the Federal Trade Commission, either online or by phone at 888-567-8688 to opt out of receiving "prescreened" offers of credit;
www.DMAChoice.org, for the Direct Mail Association website, and
Slotguard, https://www.slotguard.com/, $9.95 per year, "but they handle credit card offers, magazines, catalogs, coupons and they actually contact and then follow up with all these companies."

     The Green Hills Public Library, 8611 W. 103rd Street, Palos Hills (708-598-8446) will host a shred event Saturday, March 10th from 11 am -1 pm in the Interlochen parking lot.

     As an addendum to the Focus Blog, I used a tool this morning that I failed to mention in last week's blog.  I often get ALMOST done and then decide I want to be doing anything but what I am doing (washing dishes, folding laundry, writing a difficult blog).  To get my tasks ALL THE WAY DONE, I resist this urge to go anywhere else by committing to one more minute, and counting slowly to 60 while I complete the task at hand.  I am usually ALL THE WAY DONE after that one more minute. Give it a try!

      Have a great week, talk to you next Tuesday!
